Good morning, fighters.

It's here......... The unmentionable is falling at a fast clip. We have evaded the "blizzard" warning and only have a "heavy storm" warning. Needless to say, my day will be spent at home. Forrest had a sleepover last night with 3 or 4 friends, so we may have them running overhead until they can get picked up. I do not see the swans on the lake, but it's kind of difficult to spot swans in an unmentionable storm.

Barb, I saw your last post yesterday. I am so hoping you get some good news about your mom's condition and she avoids an infection. Take good care of yourself, too.

Fighter's, if any of you are lurking, please check in and let us know what's going on.

Have a good day.

Good Morning Selma and fighters to follow!

Well, after 3 coats of paint, I have finally covered my faux mistake in the bathroom. I am so tired of painting that room already. Now, I have to scrub the sink, the floor, the toilet, the medicine cabinet and wooden storage cabinet. Any suggestions for getting paint off wood? I was really busy yesterday and that is why I did not stop in to say Hello and I am still on track. I am going to be getting ready for church soon and am taking a much needed break from the bathroom. Day 10 here, almost had a slip yesterday with pretzels, but stopped myself and got fruit instead.

Selma--I saw your "unmentionable" on the news last evening. I hope you are all hunkered down and staying warm and comfortable. I bet those swans are sorry they came back so early! I know I would be!

Linda--How are you doing? I saw a little bit about how old you are feeling...are you taking your vitamins? don't be like me...a hard head...now, I take them everyday, cause I had zip, zero, nada energy before..

Suzie--good job on stopping yourself before it went any further...it is tough to do at times. Hope everything is going well for you and that your week-end is getting better.

BarbA---I am so sorry to hear about your Mom...I will remember her in my prayers...don't worry about the 2 pounds, stress causes us to gain faster than normal and it will be gone soon.

Allison---how are you doing? Did your Friday go well? Have you found a new job yet? We had a new Walgrens open in our town and I was seriously considering applying there...

Karen--Where are you? I miss you! Just check in, OK?

Good morning Fighters,

I avoided the pull of nighttime snacking last night, and I am proud. I started getting the munchies after dinner and had a bit of fight with myself. I ended up making a cup of herbal tea and watching figure skating and some speed skating. Afterwards I realized that what I needed was a break, not food.

Today I am hoping to get out for a run. I picked up a stopwatch at Target on sale the other day, so that will help me keep track of the time. I lost my old stopwatch in the move somehow, and when I went running earlier in the week I carried my cell phone with me, which was not a good idea -- too bulky.

(((Barb))), I am hoping that there is no infection. Sending love and good thoughts your way.

Selma, enjoy your day inside. We have evaded any unmentionable that sticks to the ground so far.

Sandy, congratulations on finishing the bathroom and on day 10. You are on fire! What's your next home project? ;)

Have a good day everyone.

Sandy, I'm glad you got that bathroom finished. We now are included in the blizzard warning. The swans are hunkered down in the unfrozen area of the pond and appear to be waiting it out. Congratulations on day #10.

Suzie, good going on nipping the snacking urge in the bud last night. Enjoy your run.

See you all later.

Good Morning Selma, Sandy, Suzi and fighters to follow,

Wow the "S" fighters are checking in! It is still so cold here but I will take that over the unmentionable. I have a touch of a headache today and I hope it doesn't turn into a migraine. I have cleaning and such to do and this afternoon my DD has her follow up for her free throw win. DS got home close to 11 last night and now I can rest for a few weeks with traveling, the next away games will be if we make it to the semi-finals. Which looks pretty promising since we are rated #1 for the moment.
Went to a breakfast this morning to support a Penguin Plunge ( when people jump in the cold lake) so I will have 1 point soup for lunch.

Selma- I hope this is what is considered the line storm for winter, when we draw the line and accept no more! I keep looking for those red winged black birds and then I will do my spring dance! :exercise: If it is true that I am as old as I feel, I am in deep trouble! Have a good day inside.

Sandy- thanks for the card and the inspiration, we can do this, we are fighters with a strong spirit. I am the worst of painters so I can not help you. My DH does not let me have anymore paint brushes! I am one of the few people who cannot take daily vitamins, if I do I get colds. Crazy but true. Day ten I :bcbsaluteyou! Let's keep moving.

Suzi- Going for a run, wow good for you. Too cold even to walk here. I might go see about getting an exercise bike today. I would like to add one more change to my routine. I like to spice things up so my body doesn't know what to expect! Enjoy your run.

Barb-hope your mom is doing better today. Hang in there we are here for you.

Lori- how are you doing?

Allison- hope today is a good one for you.

Jannie- how are you all? I pray that all your germs are in retreat!

Penny- where for art thou?

Karen- let us know how you are!

be back later.

Linda

Good morning, everyone!! I keep hearing about your unmentionable storm on the television. Oh my goodeness, everyone stay safe and warm!! Selma-I keep thinking about those swans. We're cold for us, high of 49 yesterday with rain and about the same high today but sunny. Yesterday was too cold and rainy to get out and walk, but we went to the mall and walked there. I was so proud of myself!! My DH has been so motivating and supportive, he went with me and we pushed little Amelia in her stroller. It was a good time!

You guys have a fantastic OP day. Stay warm!!

Good Morning, Selma and Fighters that follow.

We have 12"-18" of the unmentionable this morning. It depends on what part of the state you live in. We have about 15" out front. The dc are so happy. DH is out digging out the cars. I hate this stuff. I am always afraid of the driving. One good thing is that I am off of work today. They said, they are opening later and enjoy my snow day.

Selma- Enjoy watching the unmetionable out the window, I bet it is beautiful. I hope you don't get hit too hard.

Sandy- I am so happy for you that your bathroom is done. Great job on starting day 10. Keep up the great work.

Suzie- Keep up the great work. Great job making good choices. Enjoy your run. I am so proud of your effort. :bcbsalute

Linda- I hope your head feels better. I am glad ds got home safe and sound. Make sure you take some me time today. Have a good one.

S Suther- Have a great day. Welcome to the fighter thread. I don't think I welcomed you. Great job walking the mall.

Barb- I hope your mom is doing better today. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

I will check in later. Have a great day.

I'm now angry at myself that i clicked the wrong button and lost my whole post! Grrrr!!

Good morning everyone! I managed to do 30 minutes on the gazelle last night, allbeit broken up throughout the afternoon, and evening. Back on track eating wise. I'm going to have to make a concerted effort to plan for my dinners the next few weeks while things are so chaotic. I will pull that crockpot out, and maybe peek at the Sunday paper and do some shopping/planning on the way home from work.

I stopped in to see mom this morning. Her temp is still up .. won't get the results of her cultures back til this afternoon to see what's brewing. She had an episode of atrial fib and resp in the 50's last night, but it settled down. They are trying to decrease her ventilator settings, which is going very slowly. I just hope and pray that they can do it and she tolerates it ... i hate to think of what the alternative is, with a trach or whatever. That's certainly something that mom never wanted. Other than that, she is still "critical but stable" ... they had her sitting up in a chair/bed, but she was still pretty lethargic and only opened her eyes 5 or 6 times during the visiting hour. Thank you guys for all your support. It's good just being able to "say" this stuff sometimes.

Selma: I'm shivering just thinking about that blizzard warning! Stay inside and stay warm! We had the fireplace going last night when we watched a dvd. I didn't care about the movie, but just liked watching the boys enjoy the movie and i also enjoyed the "light show" of the embers and flames in the fireplace.

Sandy: I'll have to go back and see what your faux mistake was! Did you cover up some faux finish with regular painting? My DH is a painter and does some awesome faux finishes. I'll try to remember and ask him re: getting paint off wood. Day 10 is AWESOME! Congratulations on that!!

Suzie: Congrats on your victory of avoiding those munchies too! I wanted to say that when i was responding to one of the threads earlier, I saw a post you made. I am always so struck by your insights, as well as how you can word your advice to be inspirational and "teaching" at the same time without sound sounding overly preachy. I admire that. I had to laugh when i thought about running and timing myself with a stop watch .. somehow, I think i could come up with an accurate time on myself running with a sundial! :D

Linda: Hopeing that your headache fades away. I smiled at the "Penguin Plunge" ... that's a cute name. Our city has a "polar bear" club that always goes in the bay on New Year's day.

Shannon: Mall walking is a great idea ... tho i'd probably keep stopping to do window shopping! ;) It's awesome that your DH is so supportive of your efforts.

Jannie: 12 - 18 inches!! YEOW! i'm so sorry!! i'm glad you can stay home today too ... you've been thru the ringer the last several weeks with all the sickness you've had ... hey .. wait a minute .. ;) ... didn't you bring this snow on wishing it would get colder and freeze to kill all those germs?? (j/k) Actually, i don't mind when the unmentionable comes, as long as i have food in the house (naturally! lol) and i don't have to get out and drive. But that doesn't usually happen! Enjoy your day, stay warm and stay inside!

To all those who haven't checked in, know that we're thinking of you!

BarbA

Hopefully everyone who hasn't checked in is ok and enjoying a weekend off, and no one is without power due to the snowstorm!

My sister is such a sweetie, she knew i was working and doing hospital duty today, so she made rigatoni and meatballs and some soup and is bringing it over to the house! I'll either have a small portion of it, or else feed the brood with it and have one of my frozen dinners. Mom is still pretty non-responsive ... not a good sign ... and they had to increase the vent settings because she wasn't tolerating it well. Temp is still elevated.

I'll plan on doing 20 - 3o min on the gazelle once i get back home this afternoon/evening .. and maybe just try and enjoy a bubble bath this evening to relax a little.

Selma: Are Forrest's friends snowbound in with you?

Hello again, fighters.

DS#1 just sent an e-mail saying "this doesn't look too good" and a link to our newspaper's web cam showing Main St. in almost whiteout conditions. What a comic. I sent him a reply saying "wish you were here-----to shovel us out!

I have no idea how much is on the ground but it doesn't look like it will clean up easily. When it's over, we'll call a neighbor's son and hire him to do the honors. I hope there's no school tomorrow. I may not get to my meeting. There's still 2 kids upstairs with Forrest and Elaine. She had them making paper airplanes from a book she bought Forrest for Chanukah. They are having a lot of fun and they are quiet.

DH and I watched Hotel Rwanda and it was a devestating story, but very well done with excellent acting, especially from Don Cheadle. I recommend it if you haven't already seen it.

s_suther, my DH will mall walk with me also. I guess we have two "keepers".

Jannie, we have already gotten hit hard and it's still hitting. I'm glad you don't have to go to work.

Barb, the kids are not snowbound. One is leaving at 4 and Elaine hasn't heard from the other one's parents yet. She doesn't mind, though. They are having such a good time. I'm thinking of your mom. I hope you get some better news soon. (((((hugs))))).

I did go running this morning in the cold air. It will take me awhile to build myself back up to a "normal" length run, but I will keep trying. I have been working and am trying to buy plane tickets to the conference in L.A. and to see my parents in Denver.

(((Barb))), I'm hoping for good news about your mom. You DSister sounds like a nice, loving person. Thank you for the compliment -- it means a lot since in my chosen profession (professor) I will be working with students and will need to give advice without being preachy.

Selma, I loved that movie -- so sad, and so important. I especially love Don Cheadle. He is from my hometown. He has such versatile talent, too -- he was in Ocean's Eleven and played a completely different role and did fabulously.

Linda, are YOU doing the Penguin Plunge? Crazy lady! ;) :buddysmoo

Jannie, enjoy your snow day.

S Suther, isn't it nice when your DH is supportive?

All right buddies, back to work for me. My reward if I get the required amount done is to watch figure skating. I love it. Okay, I love the speed skating too. Last night I saw a competitor from the SouthSide of Chicago (where I live) and I got so excited!

Hello again,

Well DD won the second round in the free throw competition. Again she was the only one to show up. LOL. But this time she made 4 baskets and she got a big medal. Too funny. I cleaned the hall and I should be dealing with the laundry but I have quite a few e-mails to get out and I have a warm blanket on my legs, my spring jacket and my gloves on so I can feel warm. The kids think I am crazy, maybe I am!

Selma- has it stopped yet? I hope so. Did you see Michelle dropped out of skating due to an injury. That is sad I wanted to see her compete. Have a cozy evening.

Suzi- me jump in a frozen lake in Feb. ????? http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/36/36_1_26.gif No way, my momma didn't raise no fool. Congrats on the run. Weigh to go.

Barb- more hugs and prayers to you. Stay strong. That is a part of life I can't even think of so I feel alot for what you are going thru. Take care buddy. ********}}}} Your sister is a keeper!

Jannie- 12 to 18 inches of s%$#. http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/4/4_9_17v.gif I would hate that. I guess I will take the cold. I hear ya about the driving, so many people don't slow down even during storms. Glad you don't have to go out. Enjoy your evening at home.

s_suther- welcome to our family. Good job on the walk. Nice to have a DH that is supportive.

well I guess I will start on those letters. Be back later.

Linda,

It stopped a while ago. Elaine went out and shoveled before it got too heavy. I told her to get the kid if it was too much for her but she did it all. I don't like her to do it because she sometimes has back and hip problems. She has no clinical at the hospital tomorrow but school has not been cancelled yet.

I thought there was a good chance Michelle Kwan would not skate. I feel badly for her. She's such a lovely performer and wanted to try for the gold one more time. You just can't fool around with a groin injury. I think she did the wise thing for herself and the team.

Well, the Celtics are playing so I will torture myself by watching them. Maybe they can pull off 2 wins in a row.

Have a good evening, all.

Good Evening Fighters....

I'm checking in to let you all know, yes.......I'm about and lurking. Still on the mend, but getting better day by day. ( Even though the massage therapy treatments make we want to :sobbing: while they work out the "knots".)

I crashed and burned with my most recent attempt to get back OP, but I just found it so hard with the kitchen full of paint stuff, and my stove pulled out in the middle of the kitchen for over a week. It may sound like an excuse to some............but I just found it hard to "operate" and stay OP.

I had company come visit me this weekend, and my dear SIL finished up the last few bits of painting for me. Trim etc.. So, as I start to move all the painting stuff out, I will be able to reclaim my kitchen and focus on food preparation once again. As a result, I'm hoping to get things organized so I can do just that over the coming days.

I'm returning to work this week on restricted duties after my fall. I know I will be happy.......just being about amongst people again. So on the whole, I'd say things are definitely looking up :D .

The only other hurdle left to accomplish is the prep for my carpet installation. But that is minimal compared to what I have accomplished already. I had numerous compliments from my dear SIL when she was here about how the place looked. She said she could see how "I worked my butt off" !!!! I wish it had been a literal comment, but I'm afraid my butt is as big as its always been. LOL !!!!

Sandy.........thanks for the PM !!!! BTW, if you find a way to get paint off wood, let me know !!!! I managed to get a bit on my entrance door. One thing I'm not interested in is sanding and staining this door !!!!! I understand your woes though over painting !!!! But one thing I have learned......the more painting you do........the better you get !!!! Just takes a little practice !!!! BTW.......be very careful when it comes to using ladders !!!! ;)

Selma.........I've been reading and watching about the storm that is hitting you as we speak !!! I just hope your power doesn't go out !!! I'm glad to hear the swans are back.........but I guess they are second guessing their early arrival seeing the brutal change in your weather.

Suzie........I'm enjoying watching the olympics as well. It is a treat from the "same old same old". Way to go on the running !!!!

Linda........I love that term "the Penguin Plunge". Like Barb.....we've only had the "Polar Bears". I guess we aren't very original !!!! It remains very cold and amazingly clear here. The windchill was minus 20C this morning when I last checked. We have a crystal clear brilliant full moon shining in through my solarium window at present. Looks beautiful !!! (The lake looks like sparkling diamonds as the full moon shines low over the lake !!!!)

S_suther......I've been MIA, but would like to welcome you to the fighters !!!

Jannie.......Wow !!!! 12 to 18 inches ???? I have to agree with you re: the snow !!!! It will surely be quite some time before the streets are cleared. Take care. I just hope you don't have any power interruptions either !!!!

Barb........I'm sorry to hear of your family's concerns regarding your mothers current health problems. <Healing Vibes> coming your mom's way !!!! I'll be joining you in planning my dinners like I used to. I would plan my menu's for a week at a time. And just mix the days up, depending on what I felt like that particular day !!!!! Way to go on the exercise on the gazelle !!!!

A big Hi to anyone I may have missed.

Karen

Ok .. You have managed the impossible Karen! You have actually made this cold weather sound appealing! :D

Karen- I am so glad to see your post. Don't stay away. You are missed around here. We are all here for you. You are never alone. We will get through this together on a daily basis. Don't be a stranger. :)

Schools are closed for tomorrow. I am glad they told us this before we went to bed. This way the kiddos can sleep in and I won't wake them for nothing.

Selma- I hope they tell you about schools before tomorrow morning. I am so glad that Forrest had some friends over. My ds use to love it at his age. I miss those days. I used to have little boys running around with power rangers everywhere. Now, they get together to play the guitar and drums. They grown up too fast.

I am going to bed. I will check in tomorrow.

Barb- I hope your mom is doing somewhat better. I hope you get some good news soon.

Thanks for the welcome back Barb and Jannie.

Barb.........Gee, maybe I should have been a writer .........eh ??? LOL !!!!

Jannie.......I'm glad to hear the kids are home from school tomorrow. Can you imagine the nightmare that the roads will be anyways ??? Keep warm, and take care when you are out and about in the "unmentionable stuff" !!!

Well, I'm signing off for the night as well. Everyone sleep well !!!
