Thread: Barbara's Felicity Oatmeal Granola

  1. #1

    Default Barbara's Felicity Oatmeal Granola

Thought I'd post it here as well as the CORE forum

    4 cups old-fashioned oats
1 cup NF dry milk powder
    1/2 c. cream of wheat.

    Mix together and add

    2 Tablespoon canola oil
1 cup SF syrup, any flavor

Mix well, bake 250-300 degrees for 45-65 minutes, stirring every 15 minutes of so. Done when granola is cruchy and dry, but NOT BURNED!

Cool well. Divide into six one-cup serving portions. Each serving size is CORE, with one healthy oil for the day and half a dairy serving. Flexers: one serving size is 7 points.

What does the dry milk do to it? I can't do the milk part.

I had a work function yesterday and we had a yogurt buffet for breakfast. I brought some of this granola along. I thought the ingredients were a little strange but thought I'd give it a whirl. This granola is delicious! Everyone in my office loved it too!

    Hi Judy,

Yes, you spread it on a baking sheet. And, watch carefully so it doesn't burn.

I haven't made it yet, but if I remember correctly they STRESSED that the granola needed to cool COMPLETELY before storing.

    This sounds great!

Quick question - can anyone recommend a SF syrup that doesn't have the sweetener/splenda aftertaste?
Is it a problem in this recipe? (i know some recipes you can taste it more than others)
I can taste that artificial sweetener when it's used in large quantities.

    Thanks!

Nan-see--Look for Monin brand sugar free syrups. I don't care for davinci or torani syrups, but the Monin brand ones are *amazing*. They're a bit hard to find, but well worth the search.

OK - bumping this up with some questions.

I haven't found the Monin syrup yet (well i found it online but of course i'm too impatient to wait for it).

Does anyone know any store chains that carry it?

    OR

Can anyone recommend something I could subsitute the syrup with?
    (besides Elmer's glue?)

MMMMMMMMMMMM this is one of my f avourite recipes.. I dont' make it often because it's just TOO tasty.

I live in canada.. where i'ts just darn hard to find sf syrups.. when i first started making this i just subbed 1cup water plus sweetner (splenda/fructose).. i dont' like toosweet granola so i'd say maybe 1/2 cup.

Store bought sf sweetner is basically a simplesyrup with flavours.. a normal simplesyrup is 1cup water to 1cup sugar.. boil until the sugar disolves.. I assume the same rules would apply with splenda.

Good luck.. but.. becareful.. you just might fall in LOVE!

Would sf maple syrup work for this, or does it have to be like Divinci?

I made this last night during the Cowboys game. Easy and quick to make! I used some Macadamia Nut syrup, with a little bit of Carmel thrown in. YUMMY!

Next time, I'll use SF DV Chocolate. Would be like having chocolate chip cookies!

I wonder if it's bad or just some of the powdered milk from the recipe? Hmmm.....well this stuff is so good I've been having it in my nf plain yogurt every day, so it's not going to last that long!

Ok, this is probably a stupid question, but thought I'd ask anyway.

If you spread it on a baking sheet (i'm thinking like rice krispie treats) how do you stir it???

I need to make this b/c I'm having major granola cravings this week and I'm too "cheap" to spend WPA's on something that should be healthy.

Does anyone know the answer to that? Is the milk necessary for the recipe, or could it be left out?

Made this last night w/ SF Maple and added some Cinnamon after it was cooked. Eating it now with some no sugar added applesauce and YUM!!! I absolutely love it! I think next time I'm gonna try making it w/ applesause instead of SF syrup.

Another one here questioning the need for non-fat milk. My son can't have dairy but would love some granola to crunch on!
